Mycorrhizal Fungi

Mycorrhizal Fungi trade phosphorus (P) to plants in return for sugars. The plant is these fungi’s sole source of food. If the plant is not giving them sufficient sugars, the fungus gives less phosphorus and can look for a better plant. On the plant side, if the fungus is not giving sufficient P, the plant cuts nutrient flow to the fungus.
