Jesse at the ACGA Conference

Vermicompost Extract Testing

Long time customer Jesse Wiser recently presented at the annual American Community Gardening Association (ACGA) conference in New Orleans. His presentation centered on methods small growers can use to improve the soil ecosystem.

During the presentation, Jesse demonstrated microBIOMETER® as a user-friendly, cost-effective tool to measure microbial health. The demonstration to an audience of small scale, mostly urban gardeners featured trial microBIOMETER® readings. These readings confirmed an increase in microbial biomass and fungal to bacterial ratio with the application of vermicompost extract, correlating with impressive plant growth and vegetable production (see below).

Broccoli

One single soil drench application of vermicompost extract produced during the first Bio-Extractor prototype trial was applied as the only input in a small mixed vegetable garden carved out of a larger conventional hayfield. Comparative microBIOMETER® readings taken from the surrounding hayfield, and from the roots of these broccoli plants showed in increase in microbial biomass as well as fungal to bacterial ratio. Note the size and health of broccoli plants as well - watering can included for size comparison purposes.

Jesse Wiser is a co-founder of Hiwassee Products, a small manufacturing company dedicated to engineering and producing equipment solutions for growers and others working to restore and balance soil microbiology.

David von Pein with John Ridley

microBIOMETER® in Australia

Our Australian distributor David von Pein a.k.a. The Meter Man attended the Australian Biological Farming Conference & Expo last week. It was a great conference! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to speak with David and to purchase a test kit!

Here's David discussing microBIOMETER® with John Ridley of Converte Pty Limited.

"Always great to catch up with David, at Converte Pty Limited we supply our farmers with bio-agri inputs and also the tools to measure improvements in soil health and function. It's great to see the microBIOMETER® added to the list of offerings. We can utilize this tool to show farmers the difference in soil biological activity in well managed soils and what this means for plant health, quality and also profitability for the grower." - John Ridley

Grower's Mineral - A journey to validation

Soil biology validation

Thank you to Grower's Mineral for including microBIOMETER® in their newsletter titled "A journey to validation - A summary of the latest information from the GMS research team." We appreciate your continued support!

"Last year, the research people at GMS located a new testing kit that eliminated issues with testing the biological biomass in the soil.

Almost from the beginning, it was felt by those that used GMS for a number of years on their crops, and among those that used it as a mineral source for their animals, that it appeared to a positive effect on soil life.

While many agribusiness operations claim to have the best soil test for biology, The research team found nothing but frustration with them, much of it from issues that arise from the time of gathering, to the time of testing. There were too many x-factors that distorted any accurate results being possible.

Enter the bio-meter, a real time 20-minute test that accurately allow results after gathering, allowing the research team to harvest real numbers, and validate what scores of GMS user’s and developers always thought, but could never prove, till now."
