Laura Decker demonstrating microBIOMETER

MOSES Organic Farming Conference

microBIOMETER® attended the 33rd Annual MOSES Organic Farming Conference in La Crosse, Wisconsin February 24-26th. The trade show was back LIVE after two virtual years with days full of keynote speakers as well as sessions on homesteading, livestock, water management, and soil health (our favorite!) Our own Laura Decker hosted a booth and spent most of the time running soil test demos and talking to folks about using the microBIOMETER®.

It was great to connect with Dallas McCann of White Feather Farm and hear how he is using the microBIOMETER®. White Feather Farm is participating in the Carbon Sponge Project. Also fun to run into the folks from ACRES USA (hosting the bookstore) as well as Organic Gem and Neptune's Harvest.

One of the most interesting booth finds was WWOOF USA, a cultural and educational program. Visitors, or ‘WWOOFers’, spend about half of each day helping out on a host farm. Here they learn about organic farming and sustainability, and receive free room and board during their visit – with no money exchanged between hosts and WWOOFers. WWOOFing is a way to learn practical farming skills, be part of the organic agriculture movement, and experience the heart of its culture.

Managing Soil Health

Our customer, Joe Ailts, attended the Managing Soil Health meeting in Wisconsin last month which featured Ray Archuleta as well as a farmer panel of dairymen and row crop farmers. Joe set up a table to demonstrate and discuss microBIOMETER®. He had many conversations with local farmers to talk about soil health and the microBIOMETER® platform and received wonderful feedback on our soil test. Having a screenshot of actual microBIOMETER® results readily available for attendees to view opened up some wonderful dialogue. Folks really appreciated being able to see both biomass and F:B ratio data firsthand.

Joe Ailts of Ailts Agronomy is a crop consultant located in Northwest Wisconsin whose business places an emphasis on soil health measurement and management. Joe is fascinated by the potential of harnessing soil microbiology for increased crop production & profitability. When not helping farmers in the field, Joe enjoys growing world class giant pumpkins.
